Buckle Your Seat Belt for Double Blind by Brandilyn Collins

Lisa Newberry is only twenty nine years old.  She is way too young to be weighed down by the grief she feels for the  incredible loss she has suffered.  Lisa is young widow and can barely make it through the day.  Double Blind is full of twists and turns.  I think it is the best of hers I have read.  It is very thought provoking and full of fresh thoughts.  If you are looking for a book for your book club this is THE book to read.  It will make you think of what would you do if you were put in a certain situation.  Would you have a surgery that was dangerous, that would make you feel better knowing that it might not work?  Would you dig for the truth of a matter no matter the cost to you?  What about if it would cost others?  If you want some, buckle your seatbelt suspense this is the book for you.

9 FOR NOW

from Hugh Breland to leaders
9 for NOW…
#1 – Am I actively connecting to the people and places God wants me to OR am I wishing and waiting to be connected to? (model it for students)
#2 – Am I known as the person who sits around and complains about a problem or the one who rolls up his sleeves and dives into how to deal with it?
#3 – Would I rather hear about the other student leaders having a major win or a minor problem?  (This reveals our heart!)
#4 – Am I known as the guy/girl who makes promises but does not follow through or can people take me at my word?  (For the answer to this question ask those closest to you!)
#5 – What steps am I taking to increase my own leadership capacity?  (I recently saw Brian Houston tweet, “Leaders goal:  To constantly increase my capacity in order to lift the limits for others.”)
#6 – Do I genuinely care about the people God has called me to lead or am I just using them to enlarge my platform?  (For the answer to this question simply ask your direct reports how they honestly feel!)
#7 – Am I honestly and sincerely giving my best effort in what the Lord has called me to lead or am I allowing myself to slip into cruise control and complacency?
#8 – Am I a consistent vision caster or not?
#9 – What intentional opportunities have I given others (specifically students) to fulfill purpose recently?

The Stars Shine Bright, Book Review

The Stars Shine Bright (A Raleigh Harmon Novel)

The Stars Shine Bright, fifth novel in Sibella Giorello's Raleigh Harmon series, is quick paced and quick witted, with special agent Harmon going undercover to discover who might be fixing races at a local thoroughbred horse track.
I was thrilled with this book. It is the first time I have read this author. It will not be the last. Even tho I haven't had a chance to get to know the heroine of this book, Raleigh, you can tell she is trying to make right some of the wrongs she has done. The relationship between the characters is just wonderfully complicated. I am looking forward to going back to read the others in this series.  From what I have read about the others her life is one wacky adventure after another.  Some good some bad totally real.

House of Mercy, Book Review Contemplative

Hey Friends This is a fun contemplative book.  I know it is hard to
picture both in the same book.
It is multifaceted wiht whimsy( a little) forgivness(Beth Needs muy mucho)
Grace dont we all need some.
Beth is stubborn but she has much to learn and I dont want to share any more.
Click on the amazon link below
Carreer DFW website will get a reward.

This is my review of House of Mercy by Erin Healy Thomas Nelson Publishing.

This is how your review will appear:

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow what GraceOctober 7, 2012
This review is from: House of Mercy (Kindle Edition)
Beth has a gift of healing--which is why she wants to become a vet and help her family run their fifth-generation cattle ranch. Her father's dream of helping men in trouble and giving them a second chance is her dream too. But it only takes one foolish decision for Beth to destroy it all. This book takes you on a wild adventure. I enjoyed it because It had points of interest that I didn't see coming. Erin is impulsive and focused on what she thinks is right but she doesnt always stop and listen to her head and follows the impulse of the heart and there are consequences that effect many people. It is a picture of grace that we all need. Her adventure has an awesome ending. I wont spoil it here. Great book to curl up in front of the fire and read. Make sure you have your candy corn in a bowl beside you.

MOTIVATING MONDAY

In light of recent circumstances I must make a point to stay motivated.  My goal is to stay
focused on staying on track with my  4fs. .  Taking care of Mom.  Growing closer in my relationships with new friends, my brother and family most of all with Christ.  With out a closer relationship with Him nothing else matters.
This week I am staying motivated to stay with my spark people goals.  Walking 20 minutes three x a this and 20 minutes on the WII fit daily.  Today I am with home with Mom.  I am going to walk and do the WI fit super hula hoop.  Burns lots of calories.
My fun thing to do is pull out some fall decorations and put them up.
My friendly thing to do is give my neighbor the name of the exterminator. I am going to make some pumpkin cookies for small group tonight.  Don't worry they look fairly healthy.  If they are good I will post the recipe.
My fast thing to do is just do it.

Morning Musings

Things just became way easier because Mom had decided she like the veggie crumbles.  I reintroduced her to them in spaghetti last week.  She asked me to make my chili with them.  Woohoo.  I went to the store and wouldn't you know they don't have any.  That was the icing on the cake.  That was the worst trip to wal-mart I have ever had. That is a whole other adventure all together. I digress.  I made my chili and everyone loved it Brianna ate two bowls and we just used saltines and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese..  YUM.  I warned Bri that we are trying two new recipes this week.  She groaned.  I made it more exciting by telling they are recipes from Columbia.  I will let you know how it goes.

Adventure To a Healthy Body part 2

Creating Community
This is so important.  We can create community in so many ways.  Social Media has changed the way we do .....well just about everything. You can get a better job if you have a linked in.  Then recruiters started using twitter, then they moved to pinterest and now they are entering the Facebook zone.  Dont forget about You Tube.
What we need to remember is we have to have community with people that we can touch.  Christian believers need each other to stand strong.

The Moment that Changed the World: September 11th

This Picture speaks for itself.  It was the moment that changed the world.  I remember the day it happend.  I know excatly what I was doing.  I was working at National Health Care.  I was a Unit Secretary on the non-skilled unit. It was always quiet nothing much changed.  We had a PA that day checking on the Residences.  She came down and said something about a bombing. I had no clue what she was talking about.  She said I can not  believe you dont know what I am talking about. It is allover the news.  So I went down to the break room.  That was the moment that I realized the world would never be the same.

At the time my sister-in-law,Kristen, was working on the top floor in one of the tallest building in Dallas. In all my selfishness in that moment All I could think about was if it could happen in New York and they could get to the Pentagon they could have a plan to hit that Building.  I called her and left her a message.  I never heard from her but I figured my brother would call me if something happened and I would see it on the news.  I then prayed( I know I should have done that first) and God gave me a peace.  There was no peace for many for a long time to come.

My Blog

The purpose of my blog is to share some adventures.  I looked up how to make your blog better.  There is so much out there.  So many rules and maybe someday I will apply all of them. Ok maybe some.  Right now I want to keep it small.  Just sharing my life one snippet at a time and I hope you will share some of your life with me.  Creating community is the purpose of a blog right.  Many people create a blog to increase their real estate, nothing wrong with that.  My blog will do that for me.  That is not why I started it.

Adventure to a healthy body

September 8, 2012
I am now heavier than I have been in years.  My clothes don't fit.  I feel tired all the time and I can feel the unhealthy state of my body with every move I make. I am making some changes.  I am going to start with the Zumba 5 day express diet. Kind of.  It has to much meat for me but it will work for the rest of us.  I will just let morning star or boca fill that piece.    Everyone in my family is going on it I am just not going to tell them.  I am just going to do all the cooking.  I filled the fridge full of easy to fix veggies and meat for Mom and Brianna.  Just thinking about how good I am going to feel has me excited.  I will clean houses this week.  Adding this to my everyday routine will be enough added physical activities if I make every movement count.  I will not blog about this everyday.  I will check in with you at the end of the week.  The weekend being a whole other adventure all together. We are going to Austin for the first official College Visit. Wow.  I know God has some huge things in store for me.  I will let you know over the weekend what happens.  There may be some quest posts this week so keep an eye out and I have book reviews scheduled to publish this week.

Book Review... The Scent of Rain @kristinBeck

Kristin Billerbeck writes a great book.  Her books put a smile on my face.   The Scent of Rain is no different.  The heroine is on an adventure of a life time. She is headed in one direction intent on her goal and something happens to her that just really interferes with her plans.
It is a good example of a Plan B.  It reminds me of all the Plan Bs in my life.  We plan our life out and tell God what we are going to do and then we set about our merry way.  Only thing is, God wants to do something different.  So all of a sudden we look around and nothing is like we expected.  If we remain open to His will.  His Word promises us that He has a purpose of us.  It also promises us that all things work together for His good for those who are called according to His purpose. His plan will always be better than ours and will be a great adventure.
The heroine in this book finds her way.  Well I should say she finds God's way.  Which is so much better don't you think. Kristin  three thumbs up.

The Spirit gives Life

July 6 2012 I am overwhelmed with the goodness of Jesus Christ Almighty.  I have been watching the Hillsong Church Conference online this week.  God has blessed me with some incredible teaching.  I dont want to blog about the Manna I dont want to tweet about the manna I want to eat the Manna.  I want to be in His prensce.
"It's not Christ AND you the hope of glory, it's God IN you the hope of glory." —   Grace is God working.  Our past and our future is not to much for Jesus.  He cant help Himself He wants to heal us.  There is the Law on one side and grace and truth on the other.  Grace and truth are one.
What we're doing at #hillsongconf is not crazy, it's human. Because human beings are created to worship God! - @LouieGiglio.  Jesus be present in my life. My cup runneth over.   You are grace and you are the Spirit in me so you fill me with Life. Bible Study ToolsBible VersionsNAS2 Corinthians2 Corinthians 32 Corinthians 3:1-11

The Explicit Gospel by Matt Chandler

  May 19th
I am starting this series with a book reviewPart 1 So many people more important than me have read and recommended this book I think I will just tell you that I love it and it is rockin my world.  I was blessed to hear Matt speak at catalyst Dallas Last week.  His talk was very reminiscint of the book.  He is very passionate about us not belittleing God.  It is for His namesake and for His Glory we were created. I was talking to one of my senior pastores the other day about Matt's intensity.  I believe that we all need a little more of this and I know he is looking forward to reading it along with other's on staff and It will be in our church bookstore.

Echoes of The Titanic (book review)

Hey guys! It is great to be with you once again.  I know you are wanting  to hear the latest and greatest of what I have been reading.  I have read so much I am going to back track a little.  I read Echoes of the Titanic Earlier this year and I was so excited to share with you the story.  I just loved it.  They dont like me to share to early and I nearly forgot to remember to share with you the fun I had while reading it.  I read this one because Mindy wrote it and I just love her books.  The only thing I dont like about her books is when I am finished I want the adventure to continue.  It can be a drawback to reading books before they come out.

Normally I dont do the whole Titanic thing.  The boat sinks the end. Right?  Well in this book the story does not end with the boat sinking. The book shows the inheritance of a survior.  Kesley the heroine has some of the same issues I struggle with from time to time.  Being singleminded , not always where it needs to be, and to much pride to ask for help.  Then you have the guy who swoops in to save the day.  Plus you have the surprise villain and you never see it coming. Two thumbs up.

Book Review The Next Target Spoiler Alert

May 10th 2012 The Next Target is well written and addresses some issues I have not seen in other books.  Austia is teaching English to Muslim women.  I want to brave and have the courage that Ausita has in ministering to women that are treated as property by their culture.  It brings home the treatment and profiling by Americans of Muslim people.  Looking into the world of the women just breaks your heart.  This adventure in reading was soul stirring.  Not a fluffy read to be sure but one well worth the effort.  The mystery component is really good with good character development .  I hope to continue the journey later in a sequel.  The evil reminds me of the evil in This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti.  Moves you to pray for those around you in a warfare kind of way.

Social Media

Social Media.  I have had a blast learning about all things social media.  I have so much yet to learn.  The thing that has helped me the most has been twitter.  I made some key connections with people down here in The big Texas.  I now follow some of them on twitter and they link to articles on all things social media.  It is a adventure that I love. What is your favorite social media and why?

Wedding Land pt 2 Always the Planner Never the Bride.

May 1st  2012
Ok Chicas.  I am a little sleepy so I will keep this short.  Why am I sleepy you ask?  Glad you asked, I was having such a time in my adventure to Tanglewood Inn in Georgia last night I could not put my book down. Audrey was in such a sad place and she really felt she couldn't share what was going on in her life.  She had great friends who she could talk to but just could not do it.  Spoiler alert ( just a little) .   The stories of what  all the characters in it was fun so I knew she would pull out of it.  And the guy on the bike, well how could you stop.  You just wanted to jump on the bike to feel the wind in you hair.  Well just around the block with out a helmet. Sounds fun.  To top it off you can see the hand of God as she begins to strengthen her relationship with Him.  The outcome shows take your time God has in all in His hand.  I said I was keeping it short.  I could go on and on.
You Tube Trailer    Sandra Bricker
Audrey tried to isolate her self.  I know from first hand experience how easy that is.  Especially when things are going great for all those around you and nothing is going like you want it to.  I think sometimes we let pride get in the way.  Maybe we need to trust the Godly men and women that God has put in our lives to share the everyday heaviness that happens from time to time. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.  He gives us people to speak into our lives.  Go to Him and He will make your burden light.  and He loves you and wants you to have some fun.  So just let some Jesus dance in. This is a must read. Sandra great job.  Cant wait to read the next installment.

Empty Promises

I recently read a book called Empty Promises by Pete Wilson.  I was blessed to hear him speak last year at Faith Promise Church in Knoxville Tennessee.  As a church we went through the boohk in our Life groups. What an adventure that was.  I was part of a group of single agains.  It was called Plan B. How many of us are on Plan B in our lives or C or D? If you aren't, then your name must be Jesus.  In his book he shows us how God can use us in Plan B.  His new book Empty Promises, promises to be even better.  The whole time I read it I was ouch that hurt or ooh thats good glad I am past that.  Almost each chapter dealt with where I have been or where I was.  My life will be different because of this book.  When self-deception creeps in I will see it quicker and let God shine His truth.  I highly recommend this book no matter where you are in your walk or if you have a walk with Jesus.  All of us suffer from empty promises.  Learn how to deal with them with the Love of Christ

Left Behind 2

4/25/12
I need to get my eyes off the past and all I left behind.  I need to focus on all the adventures ahead.  I hope to write some more of past adventures randomly but I think I will write more of today's and maybe make a few up.  Vacation trips social media changes(those will be out of date before I push the publish button.  I am looking forward to sharing more books with you and I hope you will read them and share your thoughts also.  Life sometimes is funny, OK well it is funny all the time, but this is one that makes you wanna say seriously? I want to adventure into other areas as I review books. So I requested something besides christian. I was denied.  and we all know how much I love being denied. Well I am moving on and branching out.  No one is going to stop my new adventure of branching out my reading list.  It is off to the library to get my new Texas library.  Bri is really excited also. of course.

My adventure to Wedding Land

I have had the best time with my reading lately.  One of funniest new authors I have started reading in Sandra Bricker. www.sandradbricker.com .  Her characters are all stand alone people.  They are just funny and you just want to get to know them.  Her Emma Rae collection is what I am working on right now.  Her first book is about a baker who's specialty is cakes.  Wedding cakes in particular.  There is one little catch; she is diabetic. Her second book Emma Rae's best friend moves to Roswell to help her plan the weddings she is making cakes for.  You do not feel like you are  reading just another light faith book.  I  enjoy many  authors but no one has brought as many tears of laughter since I read my first of her books.  I am getting ready to read her newest book, Always the Designer Never the Bride. This one has a Harley lovin man.  I think we need more motorcycle loving God Loving men in our books. Hey maybe I could write one. I am preparing for the adventure of laughter as I read this book. I will get back with you soon, to tell you about my adventure.

Catching up

I have been very negligent with writing my reviews for what I am currently reading.  So today I have written several.   I talk about them with people and recommend them to friends but writers want the written word.  The publishers do anyway.  I have contacted some authors through twitter and I have received replies. I have been introduced to so many new authors in the last year through this process.  I cant wait to share more with you in the future.  I will be starting a book club in the spring. We will meet  by the pool in my neighborhood. If you are interested let me know.  We have not decided on a time yet.

Book Review

Some adventures I have been on have been through the eyes of authors.  I love to read.  I review books for Netgalley for different publishers.  I will be taking some of them and sharing them here.  IF you would like to talk about any of them just let me know.  Coleen Cobble is one of my favorite writers.  She writes for Thomas Nelson Publishing. Her talent in writing is phenomenal she writes contemporary and historical  Her book The Lightkeeper's Ball came out last year.  I was able to read it before it came out.  It is full of twist and turns and kept me on my toes.  Two Thumbs up.

Left Behind

2011 was a year to say goodbye.  I left behind almost everything I knew.  I left my friends, most of my family, my ministry. I loved my small group.  I took my time.  I purposefully tried to meet with them in a smaller group or one on one.  I was not able to meet with all of them.  I left my job. I left behind a possibility of a management position in the future.  I left behind someone that might could have become a special someone.  My prayer has been that I would be in the center of His will. I left all this behind but I have much to look forward to. More on all of this later.
